Sewickley

In 1853, the same year as the envelope-folding machine and the first World’s Fair, the “village” of Sewickley was established. Native Americans who inhabited the land had called the water that ran from the maple trees “seweekly,” meaning “sweet water.” Thus, Sewickley was born (and was almost called Sewickleyville!). To escape the smoggy air of downtown Pittsburgh, the iron and steel barons of the era built beautiful and historic farms, houses & buildings, many of which are still standing today.

Now you’ll find yourself strolling along the picturesque streets lined with shops, galleries, beautiful homes, and award-winning schools. If you’re looking for a fantastic foodie scene, you’re in luck: Sewickley is home to many high-quality restaurants with creatively driven chefs. Balance it all out by working up a sweat in a fitness class, and get some deep relaxation time at one of our spas.

Just 12 miles from the city of Pittsburgh, 9 miles from the Pittsburgh International Airport, and minutes from shopping and activities in all directions, the Village of Sewickley has everything you need to make your life as sweet as possible.
